WHAT
COUNTS
It's not the easy things that count,
Nor the open, showy task.
It's not the deed that has been done
When someone had to ask.
It's not the cry that's answered
When the tears come finally down,
It's awareness of the need
Before we ever see the frown!
It's not the minimum given,
When the need requires more.
It's not the easy phone call,
When you're wanted at their door.
It's not a "pat upon the back"
When "hold me" is in their eyes.
It's giving more than what you must,
Not just what will suffice.
How can we dare ignore the needs ...
Pretending there's no pain,
Then offer stones, when asked for bread,
And all in our Lord's name?
How can we give so little
To our Friends and Family,
Then turn to God in prayer and cry,
"Lord, give me, give me?"
No, it's not the easy things that count,
It's your Life, your energy, your time.
It's reaching out to others first,
And leaving your needs behind.
